At the second time of asking – following an extremely unseasonal ‘snow-off’ last month – a Mildenhall Speedway (proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery) ‘Select’ side goes into Junior Match action at Ipswich this Thursday evening (28th April)

It’s taking place in the Second Half of the meeting, following the Ipswich Witches vs. King’s Lynn Stars Premiership League Cup match.

The trip to fellow Suffolk track at Foxhall Heath to take on an Ipswich side in the six heat Junior League format will be the Fen Tigers’ first such visit there since the teams met in the old Anglian Junior League in 2012 – that one ending in a 12-12 draw.

Leading the way for the Junior Fen Tigers will be man of the moment Sam Bebee, who scored paid 12 (unbeaten by an opponent in his four programmed rides) in the KOC semi-final first leg win over Kent Royals at West Row last Sunday. He’s joined by another hero of that 12 point first leg victory in Alex Spooner, who is getting lots of extra experience riding second halves at the Premiership venue this season.

The ‘Select’ side is completed by the return for one evening only, of one of the Fen Tigers’ 2021 National Development League-winning squad, Sam Hagon. And making it three Sams in the side is Sam Woolley – the youngster from Derbyshire rides in the NDL this term for Mildenhall’s current Cup opponents, the Iwade-based Royals.

The Ipswich Junior team will include another 2022 Fen Tiger in Peterborough-based rider Josh Warren, for whom this is further valuable experience. Warren, in only his second full season in the sport, has strong links with the Ipswich club: receiving valuable mentorship from the Witches’ one-time British Champion and their current club captain, Danny King and also receiving support from former Ipswich rider and now their team manager Ritchie Hawkins.

The meeting is at Ipswich Speedway, Foxhall Stadium, Foxhall Heath, Ipswich, Suffolk IP4 5TL on Thursday 28th. April, with action underway at 7.30pm.
