With the season less than a month old, the Mildenhall ‘Fen Tigers’ No 1 Danny Ayres has received an early opportunity to prove himself in the Championship. Ayres received the call from Scunthorpe following the North Lincolnshire club’s decision to dispense with the services of young Australian Jedd List.

Ayres will link up with no fewer than four ex-Fen Tigers in the current ‘Scorpions’ line up, 2018 stars Josh Bailey and Ryan Kinsley along with 2012 Grand Slam winners Stefan Nielsen and Jason Garrity.

Fen Tigers General Manager Phil Kirk said “As a club we are really pleased for Danny, he certainly deserves his opportunity and we did think from the off that he would be a rider on many clubs shortlists should changes be forthcoming. We have looked at the fixtures and we will be without Danny on a handful of occasions away but he will be at all our home meetings as things currently stand. We can assure supporters that the best possible replacements will be sort to cover Danny’s absences.

I spoke to Danny earlier today and naturally he was very pleased to get the call, but was extremely keen to make it clear that he remains totally dedicated to the Fen Tigers cause, something we have never doubted”
