** Updated: Meeting cancelled due to bad weather **

This evening sees the first foray into action in the 2022 Speedway season of the Mildenhall Fen Tigers, proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue & Recovery, when a Select side goes into second half action at Foxhall Heath, the home of fellow Suffolk club, Ipswich Witches.

The action starts at 7.30pm with the Premiership League Cup clash between the home side Ipswich and their East Anglian rivals, King’s Lynn Stars.

Following this match (the first meeting of the season at Foxhall Heath), the second half will see four of the Fen Tigers 2022 squad looking to defend their National Development League [NDL] title in action.

The Mildenhall Select side in his six heat junior match format is Jason Edwards, Sam Bebee - joined by their 2021 NDL title winning colleague Sam Hagon (the 2019 British Youth Champion now with Oxford Charges who along with Edwards will feature in Mildenhall’s own opening meeting on Sunday week 10th April in the GB Under 21 semi-final); and a youngster known to the West Row faithful from after match race appearances,  William Richardson.

16-year-old Richardson hails from Edingthorpe in Norfolk and began riding Speedway last year, making a number of impressive second half appearances at Mildenhall.

Club co-owner Phil Kirk says of Richardson,

“He’s impressed us both on and off track and the club are looking to support William’s further development this season, with regular track time.  We are happy to start this with him appearing for this Select side against our neighbours Ipswich’s Reserve team on Thursday”

That junior Witches outfit is lead by one of British Speedway’s riders considered most likely to succeed in Danyon Hume plus Hagon’s new team mate at the reopening Cowley Stadium in Oxford, Jacob Clouting.  One time Kent Kings’ rider Clouting is son of  former Ipswich favourite Savalas Clouting and is riding for the first time for a side representing the club of his home town.

The other two riders in the homesters’ quartet are actually a pair of Mildenhall’s new signings for their 2022 NDL side: Alex Spooner and Josh Warren.  Both were (like Clouting) on Kent’s books last year.  21-year-old Spooner hails from Wickford in Essex; whilst Peterborough-born Warren has strong links with the Ipswich club: receiving valuable mentorship from the Witches’ one-time British Champion and club captain,  Danny King and also receiving support from former Ipswich rider and current team manager Ritchie Hawkins.

A large contingent of Fen Tigers’ fans are expected to cross Suffolk to get their first dose of Speedway action in the county for 2022 and cheer on familiar and new favourites.
