Mildenhall Speedway Club is shocked and saddened by the news of the passing aged just 51 of former Fen Tigers captain, Gavin Hedge.

Son of East Anglian Speedway legend, former Norwich & King’s Lynn Stars’ rider and World Finalist, Trevor Hedge, Gavin followed in his famous father’s tyre-prints in the 1990s an early 2000s and after spells with Skegness, Norfolk Braves and the Isle of Wight, Gavin joined the Fen Tigers, riding 85 times for the club between 1997 and 2002 scoring 760 points, captaining the side for three seasons (1999-2001). After Mildenhall, Gavin joined up with another of his father’s former clubs, Wimbledon Dons.

On behalf of the family the following statement was released, shocking the Speedway world,

“It is with the deepest regret and sadness that… Pam and Trevor Hedge inform the Speedway family that their son Gavin passed away on Thursday morning (13/10) after a nine-month battle against illness. He was 51.”

Gavin was well known in the sport and across the motorcycling world after retiring from racing for his involvement in the world-famous Trevor Hedge Racing business and his own motor cycle tuning and repairing company, concentrating mainly on road bikes.

Gavin is survived by his fiancé Emma, his parents Pam and Trevor, his sister Tracy, nephew Kenzie and other family members who request that people respect their privacy at this time of grieving.

Mildenhall Speedway Club send their deepest condolences to Gavin’s family and many friends at this extremely sad time.
