There was frustration and shock last night (Saturday 14/10) when shortly after the proposed start time the Knock Out Cup Final Second Leg Leicester Lion Cubs vs. Mildenhall DJS Fen Tigers was called off due to adverse track conditions.
The statement coming out from Leicester reads,
“Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of track staff, tonight’s meeting is postponed due to heavy rainfall in recent days creating tricky track conditions.”
The meeting appeared to be going ahead after a largely dry day on Saturday, when after the parade it was decided that both captains, Leicester’s Joe Thompson and Mildenhall’s Lee Complin were asked to assess the concerning track conditions by going out for practice laps. With Complin a faller on the overly grippy surface, the decision was taken to call off.
Mildenhall Speedway – proudly sponsored by Manchetts Rescue and Recovery – commented,
“It is frustrating for us that having completed our semi-final in this competition in April, that again we are entering the second half of October with the inevitable Autumnal conditions affecting the staging of the Final. This is especially frustrating after last season also saw a number of postponements in October of our Play Off Final, also at Leicester, which led to the season stretching into November and the need to move to a neutral track. The club’s promotion will be speaking to the BSPL [the sport’s governing body] tomorrow, to share their concerns with the Board and seek a way forward”.
